The S. S. United States set the Trans-Atlantic speed record on her maiden voyage in 1952.  One of the last of the great ocean liners, she was taken out of service in 1969.

She is currently docked in Philadelphia, but will soon be towed to Florida where she will be scuttled to create an artificial reef in the Gulf of America.
